Recreation Ministry supports the mission of FLINT GROVES BAPTIST CHURCH by using the tool of sports and recreation to introduce people to Christ, establish and affirm relationships both within the Church and with those not yet connected. Therefore, becoming “The Link” between sports, the church, the community and Christ.

OUR FOCUS IS:

· to be intentional about doing ministry within each activity as well as moving people beyond Recreational Ministries and into the Flint Groves community of faith.

· to be intentionally relational to build community within each activity and to develop personal friendships that can result in the sharing of the gospel of Christ and

· to be invitational – intentionally inviting people to experience Worship and other Flint Groves ministries. All Recreational Ministries activities are open to members of the Church as well as to the community.

+55 AEROBICS:

We are thankful for the opportunity to partner with the Gaston County Senior’s program and offer aerobics for those +55 and over. Class is held in the FLC on Monday and Wednesday’s from 9-10am. For more information visit, www.gastongov.com

WEIGHT ROOM AND GYM USE:

Our weight room and gym are open to the public for their use and the use of church events. They are both open Monday-Thursday 6am-4pm. Often during the winter months, we will have volunteers who are willing to stay and take care of the facility. If this is the case, you may find the gym and weight room open until 8pm. You can always call the church office or check the church calendar to check events and see if either of the facilities are in use.

Anyone using the Gym and Weight Room must register and sign a liability release card and sign in/out of the building each time they are here. The following rules apply:

1. Shirts must be worn at all time and can not contain any type of “vulgar” language or advertisement.

2. Times and availability are subject to change at anytime depending on church events.

3. No one under the age of 12 is allowed in the building without supervision

4. Anyone between the ages of 12-16 must have a family member present with them in the room they are utilizing at all times. The family member must be over the age of 18, unless otherwise approved by the staff.

5. Personal listening devices are not permitted unless you are using headphones.

6. Remember, though this is a gym and open to everyone, it is still a Church. Please refrain from vulgar language, comments, actions or clothing.

ABOVE THE RIM BASKETBALL/CHEERLEADING:

Above the Rim Basketball and Cheerleading is a co-ed league that offers the opportunity for everyone to play! Games and practices are held at the FG Gym during the week and on Saturday’s. Both sports are offered for children ages: 4-13. Registration begins early October and the season will end in February.

IMPACT BASEBALL & SOFTBALL:

During baseball and softball season we strive to let our actions speak louder than our impact on the ball! We offer leagues for boys ages 4-12 and girls ages 3-14, youth grades 6th-12th and adult coed. Registration begins in late January and the season end May/June.

UNITED SOCCER:

We want to be United as a team in all we do- in our everyday life and also during soccer games on the field. Soccer is offered late fall. We often host a soccer clinic that can be one or more days instead of a league.

FLAG FOOTBALL:

We offer flag football in the fall for ages 4-13. There is an instructional time followed by a pick up game. Flag football is a great alternative to the environment of tackle football. Registration opens in late July and the season ends by mid- October.

VOLLEYBALL:

In the fall we try to offer a time for families to play volleyball. This information is posted when the gym is available for volleyball use. We are always looking for ways to expand and reach those in the community and our church. If you are interested in one of these sports please let us know! We want to know if you are interested!

VOLUNTEERS:

Volunteers are always needed! Just because this is a Recreation Ministry- doesn’t mean you have to know a thing about sports- we just need smiling faces and willing hearts! Please  emailus and get plugged in. We need everyone’s help! Simply let us know and to help maintain the safety of our children and all those involved please complete our simple background check. HERE.

Areas you can serve in:

1. Coaches and Assistants- we are always in need of coaches who are willing to give one night a week for practice and one additional for games. If you are willing to serve, we are willing to do our best to make things work on a schedule that is best for you.

2. Team Chaplains- someone who is willing to serve the teams as a “Spiritual Shepherd” and pray for them and minister to the physical needs of those around them. Praying is the most important element to making all of the ministry function as one effectively. 3. Evangelism- dont mind sharing your faith with others, handing out tracks or simply taking time to talk about your walk with Christ- we can plug you in! 4. Control Desk Volunteers- when our Family Life Center is open, we love to have volunteers to sit at our control desk and greet those who come into our facilities. A smile on your face and being willing to help- that is all that is needed! 5. Sport Leaders- Do you have a specific sport that you love? Have connections in the community that can help us function better? Let us know! We are always looking for ways to improve everything we do! 6. Other areas- Don’t see something listed here but you still want to be a part- come on! Let us know what it is and we will plug you in!
